SOPAC Rule Corrections/Clarifications/Enhancements
This is my personal collection of SOPAC errata... almost all of which came
from the Errata at Web Grognards (Word
document: sopac.doc). I am
placing them here as I prefer an HTML format over a Word format. For rule
corrections, see The Rules Page.
You can always visit my main SOPAC page here.
- Battle Board
- On both Torpedo Damage Tables, the correct Hit Type for a die
roll of seven is "3 hull, 2 secondaries".
- Japanese Capital Ship Hit Record Sheet
- The Battleship Haruna should have four shaded secondary boxes,
just like her sister ships on the sheet.
- The marker for CVS01 Kamikawa Maru shows 1 tertiary but the hit
record sheet does not.
- The marker for AM01 shows 2 AA guns but the hit record sheet only
shows one.
- BB12 seems that it should be identical to BB11 with regard to
hull hit points, but it is not.
- American Auxiliaries Ship Hit Record Sheet
- AP01's marker shows it as a single ship, and the scenario setups indicate
that the two ships shown here is an error.
- American Light Ship Hit Record Sheet
- DD409 Sims has a speed of 3+ indicated on its marker.
- DD356 Porter is listed twice (duplicate is between DD366 and DD367)
- DD364 Mahan has three torpedos according to its marker which coincides
with the VP value.
- DD386 is the only US destroyer with 6 instead of 7 fuel boxes... mistake or not? I don't know.
- Japanese Light Ship Hit Record Sheet
- The Japanese Light Cruisers all have fuel boxes that would seem
to indicate that they use coal for fuel. This is a misprint. All
Japanese Light Cruisers use oil for fuel just like every other
ship in the game.
- The Japanese cruisers CL14a, CL16a, and CL17 show only one AA gun on
the counter but two on the hit record sheet.
- Some ships don't have the same fuel capacity as otherwise identical
ships around them... like DD17 (fuel=5!), DD76, DD97.
- DD86 shows a victory point value of 9 even though it is the same as
the ships above and below it with a value of 17.
- American Capital Ship Hit Record Sheet
- The Carrier Hornet should have five AA boxes, not four.
- The Carrier Yorktown should have eight Hull boxes, not seven.
It should have a point value of 130, not 125 (The Yorktown was the
sister ship to the Enterprise and the Hornet and therefore should
have the same number of hull boxes as they do.)
- The Australian heavy cruisers "Australia" and "Canberra"
should each have a torpedo factor of 2 and be worth 24 victory
points (according to historical data).
- SOPAC Scenario Book
- Page 3, First Column, Victory Points: You receive the
full VP value for each enemy ship sunk regardless of whether
it is lost in battle, is scuttled, or is lost through foundering.
- Page 14, First Column, Guadalcanal Reinforcement Force:
3 x small AP should be 3 x small TR.
- Page 14, Second Column, Allied Forces; any sea zone on South edge
of board: CL47 Phoenix should be CL46 Phoenix.
- SOPAC Tables Card
- Gunnery & Ship-Launched Torpedo Modifiers: First line
should read:
Target is BB, BC, CV, CVL, CVE, large transport +1
- Air Search Modifiers: First three lines should read:
On result of 3 or greater, task force is spotted.
Modifiers
3-4 steps of search aircraft +1
- Submarine Attack Modifiers: Third line should read:
Target is BB, BC, CV, CVL, CVE +1
- Counters
In addition, I recommend penciling in the following data on the SOPAC Tables Card
for quick reference:
- CAP Interception of Search Aircraft Modifiers: Success on 5 or 6
- CAP Interception of Flight Modifiers: Intercept on 3 or more
- Air-to-Air Combat Modifiers: 6 to hit
- Target Location Modifiers: Located on 3 or more
- Bombing & Air-Launched Torpedo Modifiers: the +1 for the ships being in port does not apply to torpedo bombers (rules give them a -1, which balances out the +1)
- Air Search Modifiers: for ASW, seaplane steps count double.
- ASW Modifiers
- 6=Abort, 7=Attack & Sink, 8=Sink & no attack
- ASW in port is both +2 and +1
- ASW aircraft of carrier in TF count double
- Submarine Attack Modifiers: 5 or 6 to hit
- Land Bombing Modifiers: 6 to hit
- Take-Off & Landing Modifiers: Seaplane/carrier aircraft crashes on -1, -2 at an airfield
