There are tons of inefficiencies ;)  Part of me wants to write it in all
Perl and provide a library of sorts for the filters, but that would
require all of the filters to be in Perl.  I think people like the fact
that they can write their filters in different ways.

That having been said, there are other things that can definitely be
improved... I'm open to all suggestions/help, but don't have a lot of
time lately. :(
